Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellows Program

The Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellows Program (PPFP) reflects the University of Chicago’s commitment to recruiting the most talented early career scholars whose research and teaching will add to the excellence of scholarship and the variety of approaches to academic inquiry on campus. Successful candidates will bring new critical perspectives on their field, including perspectives that may be related to different educational backgrounds or a research focus that engages subjects or areas less commonly studied in the field.

Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellows will be appointed as Instructors on the tenure track for up to two years with the intent that they will be promoted to Assistant Professor at the end of the fellowship period. Fellows will receive mentoring and research support as part of the program. They will be designated a faculty mentor and offered opportunities to participate in professional development programs through the Office of the Provost.

As part of their participation in their academic unit’s activities, Fellows will typically teach one class per year. Teaching responsibilities may be reduced further per the teaching customs of the department/division.

Department Travel Grants

The Department of Chemistry funds travel for several postdocs each year to attend a relevant scientific conference and present their work. The calls for applications generally come out each Spring.
