Robert Gomer, chemical physicist known for his work on field electron emission and field ionization, director of the James Franck Institute from 1977-83, and Carl W. Eisendrath Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus, passed away on December 12, 2016. Recipient of numerous awards and member of the National Academy of Science, Gomer served as editor of Journal of Chemical Physics, Applied Physics, and Annual Reviews of Physical Chemistry. A staunch opponent of nuclear weapons, he also chaired the editorial board of Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. Gomer is survived by his wife, Anne; son Richard; daughter, Maria Luczkow; and grandchildren Katie, Anna and Julia.
Gomer will be remembered in a memorial service on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:30am in Bond Chapel.
