Ka Yee Lee, Professor in Chemistry, the James Franck Institute, the Institute for Biophysical Dynamics, and the College, who has served as Senior Associate Vice President for Research since 2016, has been appointed Vice Provost for Research. In this role, Lee will work with faculty and deans to enhance and expand research activities at the University, and oversee large-scale research structures, including University Research Administration, University of Chicago Consortium for Advanced Science and Engineering (CASE), Office of Research Safety, Research Computing Center, and Research Development Support.
Lee, who also serves as Chair of the Faculty Advisory Committee for the expansion of the University’s work in Hong Kong, is an elected member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and a fellow of the American Physical Society. She was a Searle Scholar, a David and Lucile Packard Fellow for Science and Engineering and a Sloan Research Fellow. Ka Yee received her ScB degree in Electrical Engineering from Brown University, her MS and PhD degrees in Applied Physics from Harvard University, and did her postdoctoral training at Stanford University and the University of California, Santa Barbara. Lee is the recipient of the 2007 Llewellyn John and Harriet Manchester Quantrell Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
