A recent PhD graduate from the Department of Chemistry is a winner of the 2020 Reaxys PhD Prize.
Jianchun Wang (PhD, Dong, '19) is one of three winners selected from hundreds of submissions. Launched in 2010, the Reaxys PhD Prize celebrates innovative and rigorous research by ambitious early career chemical sciences researchers.
His PhD research focused on designing new co-catalysts for palladium/norbornene cooperative catalysis, which represents a novel strategy and will have a lasting impact on the field. Wang is currently a postdoc at the California Institute of Technology.
"Jianchun was a remarkable graduate student, and is equipped with a deep understanding of reaction mechanisms, high creativity in discovering new chemistry, a strong capability for solving problems, and exceptional diligence in the lab," said Prof. Guangbin Dong.
Wang said he is honored to be chosen as a winner.
"Winning this prize is a big encouragement for me. I would like to thank my advisor Guangbin and the Dong group members,” Wang said. “I couldn't have accomplished this without their help and support."
