Led by graduate student Elizabeth Bain, fifteen volunteers from Women in Chemistryand the Society for Women in Physics co-hosted a full day of free workshops in the Gordon Center for approximately two hundred female junior high and high school students from the south side of Chicago affiliated with the programGirls4Science. In keeping with this year's theme, the "Science of Beauty," students participated in activities such as examining their hair under microscopes, observing the effects of sunlight on skin, investigating genetic traits with Punnett squares, and learning how optics form images in cameras with a ray box. Bain anticipates that the University of Chicago partnership with Girls4Science will continue to grow in future years.
