As a member of the instructional faculty, I teach a variety of courses: both small and large enrollment General Chemistry courses, a capstone laboratory course “Experimental Physical Chemistry Laboratory” for our Chemistry and Biochemistry majors, and a course for non-STEM students called “The Chemistry of Artists’ Materials.” These courses allow me to work with a very diverse range of students from across the student body, an aspect of my role that I greatly cherish. Aiming to promote scientific literacy, my courses make use of real-world examples, active learning, and authentic laboratory and analysis exercises. In my Ph.D. background, I worked to develop nature-inspired catalysts for small molecule activation processes such as water or ammonia oxidation towards the ultimate goal of a carbon-neutral hydrogen economy. My interests in the chemistry of artists’ materials have also burgeoned in recent years. In all classes I teach, I endeavor to incorporate principles from my background and interests to bring chemistry alive.

Courses Taught:

  • Introductory General Chemistry I (CHEM 10100)
  • Comprehensive General Chemistry II, III (CHEM 11200, 11300)
  • Experimental Physical Chemistry Laboratory (CHEM 26700)
  • The Chemistry of Artists’ Materials (CHEM 12900/PHSC 12900)
